Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first title for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since March of 2023.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's retrieving approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

The opponent rescued four initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
